This is a new author for me. A few members of a book group I belong to recommended it so I thought I would give it a try. My first thought is that it's not a bad story. The hero and heroine have both been through some hard times. They fight their attraction to each other but eventually give in to it. Just as things are looking perfect a conflict arises to threaten their future together but love wins the day. You feel exactly the way you're meant to feel for all the characters, good and bad. Plus, the story is not that long so it's a quick read. Over all, it's entertaining. However, it's also predictable. There are absolutely no surprises. You know exactly what's going to happen the whole way. It almost reads like an outline. You get the general idea but of the story and characters but neither is fully fleshed out as much as it could be. It's basically filler. I was entertained but not blown away. I would recommend it to someone who needs something to read while they wait for the release of the book they really want to read.
Nystrom takes on quite the challenge writing a character that can't speak, but pulls it off reasonably well. I'd like to have seen Kat develop as an individual a little more--hanging around the biker bar doesn't seem to have changed her confidence level at all. And while the back stories of both characters are well developed, they have little to no bearing on the story. The villain is eminently loathable, but gets his crazy on pretty quick at the end compared to how he is in the rest of the book. I was pretty dissatisfied with the ending, but I guess the mountain won.
First, I'd like to say that one of the reviews left for this book wasn't all that positive and I wasn't sure I was going to read it. I decided to give it a chance based on other reviews.Going forward, I loved this book. I loved Kat and her determination to take what she was handed in life and make it better. I loved Mute! He was also handed a bad deal in life but found his place in the MC that became his family.I love MC books. I'm looking forward to reading Stud!
I LOVED this story! I was immediately drawn to the title. I taught deaf students for 30 years, and although Mute was not deaf, the fact that he could not speak tugged at my heart in a most personal, compelling way. Kat was such a great character ... feisty, independent, strong-willed, with her own difficult past. The chemistry between them is there from the beginning but Mute does NOT make it easy for her although he is always there to protect her from the rowdy MC club when she needs him. Kat carries on conversations with him (she makes up what she thinks he would say if he could) every time he bangs his fist on the bar or scowls at her. (These scenes were my favorite.) The story unfolds from both their points of view, which I always prefer in a romance. I was drawn in by the heartbreaks they both endured through life which always results in my falling in love with the characters!
I enjoyed this story, it was a unique take on an MC alpha male character. The story was well written and I enjoyed all the characters. The MC was on the softer side as were the characters. There was action and some roughness, but it felt sweeter then a hard dark story.The author did an amazing job with Mute. For the most part I did not miss the fact tgat ge could not speak. I loved how Kat dealt with that and hiw it impacted their relationship, or didn't as the case may be. I would have liked more relationship time with this couple. It took quite awhile for them to get together (70% in), and then the action escalated. Not a bad thing, just would have liked more. Also, and I think thus is because Mute didn't speak, I didn't really feel any connection to him ir hus love for Kat. I knew it was there, I experienced it, just didn't feel it. I did tear up a few times, so I did connect with Mackie.I heard so much about thus book, that I decided to give it a try and I am glad tgat I did. I will continue to read this series and from this author.
This was a thoroughly enjoyable book, and I absolutely recommend it to lovers of MC romance. Stumbled upon this author (never heard of her before) But am definitely going to read other books by ML Nystrom. This book captured my interest just from its title: Mute. It was intriguing- I mean how would it read, how would conversations work between the two main characters when one is incapable of speech? Nystrom handles that situation with ease. ##spoiler## There is one scene between Mute & a club bunny that some may not appreciate, but can it really be labeled as cheating if the two main characters characters are no where near a relationship as yet?? The story of Kat and Mute held my attention from the first page to the last, and the secondary characters are just as strong and memorable. I know Ita a book I will re read in future. It's a great start to a promising series. Give this book a try. It's well worth it. Well done ML Nystrom, looking forward to many more- can't wait to rip into Stud's book next!
I am glad I took a chance on this author. Mute and Kat's story I thought was really good. This story kept my attention at all times. Mute is the enforcer for the Dragon runners. When he meets the new help for the bar he knows she's not gonna last a week because she's too soft.Kat's gig at the library is over and she needs to find another job soon. She is paying her way through nursing school and she has to pay her share of the rent. Her car is also on it's last leg. She gets pleasantly surprised by one of the biker clubs matriarch who offers her a job at her bar. She is very happy to accept the offer. At the bar she meets a big and tough biker who doesn't seem to like her very much. She learns that he can't speak but he still can communicate in his own way and she realizes she can understand him with ease. I think the character, Mute, is now a favorite of mine. The only thing that disappointed me was towards the end we kind of got cheated a little bit because I at least wanted more dialogue between Mute and Kat. I hope the author doesn't take too long to complete the next story in this series. I look forward to Stud.
