I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's Disease about six months ago. My doctor recommended this book, and it has been life changing. I am young and healthy, so this diagnosis really rocked my world. Dr. Blum's book helped me realize that there is so much I can do to be in charge of my health rather than just taking medication. I'm not opposed to medicine, but why not make some lifestyle changes to limit my medicinal needs? I have changed my diet based on the recommendations in the book, and I have SO MUCH MORE ENERGY than I had 6 months ago. Additionally, based on Dr. Blum's recommendations in the book, I was tested for Celiac Disease. I was surprised to find that I have antibodies that show a gluten intolerance. I am not one to jump on fad diets, so going gluten-free never crossed my mind. However, now that I know that my body is being harmed by gluten, I will be gluten-free for the rest of my life. It's been a bit harder implementing the stress reduction strategies recommended in the book, but I'll be working on that for the rest of my life. I am not exaggerating when I say that this book has been life-changing and empowering. I still struggle with my recent diagnoses, but I know that I can control some aspects of how quickly they progress. Great purchase!I hope this review has been helpful for you! First, the positive. This book has a lot of information, it is very informative. It sounds like she really knows what she is talking about and the program, although very diet restrictive and long looks pretty good at restoring health.The one problem I have that I did not see in others reviews is it is very expensive. Once you get to the part with the plans details...there is a 30 day gut cleanse plan and then a 21 day liver detox plan...you see all the supplements you need to purchase (sold in kits on her website) and man is it expensive. As of now. The gut cleanse is $295 and the liver is $175. You then can purchase the relax kit for the relaxation portion and purchase the recipe books as well. Both my husband and I have an auto immune of reactive arthritis, spondyloarthritis and this would cost us about $1,000 for for the two of us to have 51 days of supplements. That's some very expensive supplements!!! I am sure they are good and if it would completely cure us that would be great. Unfortunately, we are low income and can not afford it so that's that. I just wanted to let everyone know before they purchase the book. I may just do a juice cleanse like Joe cross ( I think that was his name) in fat sick and nearly dead (documentary) as that seemed to cure his auto immune and I can afford that.

There is some very solid advice in this book and good discussions of how the immune system works that will probably interest people who suffer from any autoimmune condition. I really like the author's approach to the "whole patient," especially her understanding that stress and sleep are vital factors in determining overall health. She gives practical suggestions that are easy to implement. She does an excellent job of helping the reader figure out where to focus their energies, providing in-depth assessments for various areas such as lifestyle, diet, and toxin exposure. None of them helped me in my particular case, since my disease began so long ago there is nothing currently triggering it, but I think someone newly diagnosed would find her approach to be a godsend. She writes as if she is in the exam room with you, patiently holding your hand. I also liked her approach to diet in general, and I managed to lose a few pounds and have more stable energy by following her advice, even though it did nothing for my immune issues.However, there are some caveats. I found this book recommended in IG Living as important reading for people with any kind of immune system dysfunction. I had really high hopes since the book starts out by seeming very moderate and science-based, and the author has training in both allopathic medicine and public health. Unfortunately, midway through the book I realized that it contains the same old litany of health-related fads that one finds circulating across the internet in abundance wherever there are desperately sick individuals: in online forums, mailing lists, and social media groups. The recommendations won't surprise anyone: go gluten, sugar, and dairy free; eat organic, whole foods; take lots of vitamins and supplements, and examine your environment for "toxins." Worse, the book is tied to the author's own business of selling custom supplement packages. I have a distrust of anyone who peddles such things, as I believe any doctor worth their salt should not be promising results without clinical trials. The book follows a trend I find troubling where holistic practitioners are recommending off-label uses of various tests and therapies and treating with subclinical results. Common suggestions are extensive food allergy testing, heavy metal chelation without evidence of toxicity, and treatment of thyroid disease even when TSH levels do not suggest autoimmunity.Bottom line, if you are into holistic or functional medicine, this book is probably your bag, but as with any serious illness, don't disregard the advice of your care team of medical specialists. Don't read this book thinking that you're going to find the "miracle cure" for your disease. It will probably help you manage things and feel better, but there are no guarantees.

I was diagnosed with RA 5 years ago at the age of 25, I attempted several medications for a relief of symptoms. The medications caused side effects and gave me no real relief from RA symptoms at all. I found a holistic dr who told me about this book. I follow this book strictly and with the diet requirements and the supplements suggested. This book has been a life saver, I have my life back! I do still have days of flares but nothing like what I was going through. I am on no medication and control this disease with diet and supplements alone. I had to get this book for graduate level abnormal psych. Most of my books for graduate school have been very dry and, well, not what I would call pleasurable reading. However, I have actually enjoyed reading this book. The tone is conversational and slightly humorous in a bad dad joke way but I love it. But the information incredibly useful for mental health counselors that are just learning diagnosis. I have used his tables for the class vignettes every time. He does gripe on a bit about the new DSM-5 when it comes to certain disorders but everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Diagnosis has not been easy to learn... but now it is! Book is helpful, use to augment the DSM-5. Also check out the DSM-5 Made Easy, well written and helpful.

This book is very helpful. Written in plain English so you can understand diagnosis items better.

For an other wise solemn and serious subject, this writer makes his points clear and memorable by interspersing funny quips and reflections (which made me laugh) through out the book. Morrison makes learning about diagnosis interesting. His sense of humor helps make this book hard to put down.

Easy to read, has lots of case studies. I found the decisions trees very helpful.Be aware that (as the author himself says) he kind of straddles the DSM IV and DSM 5 (which makes sense, given it's publication date), so some of the terminology is technically outdated (though will likely still be used in practice for quite some time).

My one concern is that there are places where Ms. Collins moves from mixing say, a warm yellow over and over with different other colors - - then suddenly a single cool yellow will appear mixed in the middle of a grouping of warms. The compulsive, ex-accountant in me says that this lack of complete order "is wrong." (Watch the descriptions/details.)

A family favorite! I am so thankful for the abundance of quality Reformed children's resources available these days--including Church History ABCs (and its companion, Reformation ABCs). Children (and adults) of all ages can benefit from this book. A baby can flip through the beautifully illustrated pages. For a young toddler, I read just the headings ("A is for Augustine," "B is for Bradstreet," etc) at bedtime, each night adding on another letter/page until we were reciting all people A-Z. Then, we read the short biographical sketches for each church history figure. Illustrations and page layout are phenomenal, engaging for both children and adults. The pictures that correspond with each biography really stick, too. For example, whenever I see a pear, I'm reminded of how pears were part of Augustine's conversion story!

Has depictions of Jesus. I returned because of my understanding of the second commandment, Otherwise would have liked!

We love this book. We homeschool and for preschool we had gone through a letter a week for language arts, so we would just read the part from that letter during the corresponding week. Good level for a 4/5 year old to introduce some concepts about the church.

It's a great little overview of some influential people in Christian church history. Good teaching tool for Sunday school, confirmation, in the home.

I like this book. The people choose do not have as many details as I would have liked so I feel like the take away is more vague for my kiddos.

We just bought this book a week ago, and already our family loves it. My oldest is almost 5, our middle is almost 3, and our youngest is over a year. My two oldest enjoy the little stories that accompany each character, and I love that they deftly use humor and a unique illustration style to grab and keep each child's attention. Learning about important church figures while making it fun and accessible to young children has never been better!

It's a lot larger that I expected, based off already seeing the ABC's of the Reformation book, but it's cute and well-done.

This has been a fantastic way to teach church history to my preschooler in a fun and accessible way. It's genius! Short, to the point, fun, but also great for introducing those names!

The best way to put this is, don't read what the description of the book says it will teach you, think about what the description is implying it will not teach you....Yes, it teaches you how to fix the hardware, some websites to get parts and it "covers" unlocking and "jailbreaking." BUT, if someone walks up to you and says anything along the lines of, "my iPhone keeps dropping calls, it says memory full but I have removed all music, photos, and unneeded apps, this or that app keeps crashing my phone, my phone turns off and back on for no reason, etc." This book will be of no help at all. It gives you some good sites for certifications and parts. But you will not walk away with any "secret diagnostic codes," or anything like that. Most of the information is available online. Also, as the book implies, repairs cost more than the phone itself. Just look up replacement screen prices. It is a good reference book for older iDevices and does have some good info. I just found it funny how hyped this book is all over the internet.

The detail, witt and content along with the photos couldn't be much better. I found this book a BIG help when it came to fixing my grand kids iPods (4 of them!). I know I don't want to repair iPods or I will have to charge more. I also fixed 2 iPhones too. This book almost made it fun to make repairs. The tips and tricks helped a lot too. Worth 2x the price!

This is an amazing guide that shows you step by step how to fix any Apple device. The author is very talented at describing the process in full color. If you were looking for why it broke, then this is not the guide for you. It dives right in and stays focused on the outcome: to fix the device.Simply excellent and practical.

Neat book. Does not actually show you how to fix every single model of every single Iproduct,but an essential read to be informed about your subject, if your subject is Apple phones and tablets.

This covers assembly and disassembly of iPads, iPhones 3, 4, 5 and recent iPod touch and nano models, with photos. It also explains why Apple considers the latter disposable. Along the way, it mentions common pitfalls, tools, parts and techniques, including how to recover iTunes content and how to REALLY delete all personal info before disposing of your iDevice. Great reference!

I bought this book ONLY for instructions on how to repair an IPod Classic. Guess what...everything EXCEPT the Classic was in this book. A little too much chit-chat to fill the pages. I was looking for nothing but technical stuff and wasn't happy with the extra useless blah blah blah.

If you need reference material for your sketches or paintings and can't get you family or friends to assme action poses or wear capes this book might help you some what- it's a bit larger format than more pictorial references for artists and contains poses that the more classical books on the subject don't; of course one draw back is someone else has chosen the angle type and lighting and costuming of the poses for you- which ideally as an artist you'll eventually want to be able to do for yourself as your work and ideas evolve- but this book might help if you're just starting out and don't have access to the type of live models you need for your project.

My high school art students LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this book because as they are readying their portfolios, they need to see the human figure in all different positions so that they can draw and paint their projects in the way that they visualize them in their heads but since they lack the experience of the human form in all positions, they need to see these photos. And as a public school high school art teacher, I can't give my students Life Drawing Books because of the nudity - this is the perfect solution for my students because the actors are covering up a bit.I'm buying more of these books because mine are always being used and I just don't have enough!

On the whole, as a an artist's reference, this serves it's purpose. Either I've got an approximation of a pose in my mind, I'm looking for inspiration, or I just pick a pose out to practice with, I can usually find something in this book. There is a good variety of action poses here, which is divided by gender, and further by pose category. These categories include different fighting poses, divided by weapon type, hand-to-hand poses, flying, running, jumping, landing etc. as well as more mundane activities like lighting a cigarette or putting on clothes. In addition there is a section for poses involving more than one person, that includes grappling and couples poses, but this section leaves more to be desired.The lighting is static, diffused light, but any competent artist can gather the contours by looking at the pictures. The models are clothed, the guys usually wear just pants, and the amount of clothing on the women varies, from just underwear, to underwear and a tank top, to capris and tank tops. Your mileage may vary on how you'll feel about this, as some people are purists about this, but I like the modesty for the most part, makes it less awkward I guess.My only real complaint is in regards to the running poses. From what I've found, poses references usually take a static running photograph, and it's usually pretty obvious they just took a picture of a guy standing on one foot, the picture just lacks a certain dynamism. I can see they tried to counteract this problem by taking one of the models out into a park and taking pictures of her running around, climbing on slides and what have you. However, while I admire and appreciate the effort, many of these photographs are blurry and just look unprofessional. Many of the running pictures are taken at odd angles, and since they were taken outside the lighting is a bit off. While you can get the gist of the pose from the running pictures, I just can't shake the feeling that I'm looking at a junior high yearbook (yes, the kind made by junior high kids). There are a few other poses with these same issues, but on the whole most of the poses are in the studio setting with proper lighting and composition. Another issue, but slightly more trivial is the facial expressions, some just look silly.However, if you didn't buy the book just for the running poses, and are willing to overlook some other minor faults, then I would recommend it to anyone who is in need of action pose references.

This book is great for pose reference. I found it in the store, I loved the information provided in it as well as the photographs of different poses/emotions/actions however I was disappointed when I downloaded it for my kindle app. I tried it on my galaxy tablet as well as my samsung phone and both devices did not have the beautiful HD pictures found in the book. I was really excited to have it on my tablet instead of the bound book because 1) the weight of the book is colossal in itself and 2) I'd figure my tablet would make it easier to actually look at the pictures... Unfortunately when you flip through the book the pictures are small and double tapping them brings up a pixelated version of what looked lovely in the store.Rating 4 out of 5 stars because this IS a great book... I will re-purchase the physical copy but the sheer weight of it is something that will make me keep it at home. I refunded my digital copy because the details an artist may look for in this book do not transfer well in to a digital copy. I HIGHLY SUGGEST purchasing the physical copy although it is slightly more expensive and weighs a ton.Happy arting! :)

Great book. Lots of pages with various poses. Good variety of male and female models from diverse ethnic groups. Faces are not so much important for what this book is trying to accomplish, but it does help the budding artist such as myself. There are other books that focus on facial expressions, I suggest getting one of those to compliment this book.

Well I made the mistake of buying this blindly without looking at the description because I have the 3 other books.This book is a COLLECTION of the other photos from the other 3 books, and does NOT have a CD like the other books.Don't get me wrong, I love the other 3 books, and I draw from them all the time. I actually use the CDs way more than the actual books however.I would get this book if you are new to Scalera's photo reference books, and you are fine with images just in the book.

This book has many useful poses both action and otherwise, just what you need if you want someone to pose for free....well,cheap anyway. I haven't done much with it as yet, but it's close by when I need it. If you are an artist, this is a good reference for you.

The book has a lot of good reference pics but since it is a physical book it is harder to use when drawing on the screen. Makes it a lot easier to use if you snap a pic of a page and then use a file along side your drawing. Good reference

He graduated from St. John’s University (MN) with a degree in computer science and has a master’s of science degree in software engineering from the University of Minnesota. For the last several years, he has focused on user interface design. Nathaniel has contributed to corporate interface guidelines and consulted on a variety of web-based applications. A long-time member of the Association for Computing Machinery’s Computer-Human Interaction Special Interest Group and a Sun-certified web component developer, Nathaniel believes that if the user can’t figure out your application, then you’ve done something wrong. Along with his user interface work, Nathaniel is the co-creator of the open-source Taconite framework, has contributed to two corporate Java frameworks, has developed training material, and has led several study groups. During the brief moments of warm weather found in his home state of Minnesota, he spends as much time on the golf course as his wife will tolerate. The authors present a large collection of patterns and anti-patterns for presenting. Some of the patterns weren't patterns at all, but major factors that affect a presentation, along with possible consequences and ideas for improvement. As someone with some (but not a lot of) experience doing technical presentations, I found several patterns that I intend to work into my presentations in the future.The unfortunate side effect of the organization of the book (into 1-5 page patterns) is that the importance of any given topic does not necessarily match the focus it's given. For example, I would have liked to see more content about the all-important "Narrative Arc", perhaps more examples or a larger how-to-create section. Similarly, the Ant Fonts anti-pattern received more detail than necessary. The title is almost sufficient.Overall, I would recommend this book.

Perfect if you are looking to improve your presentations. Well written book with clear and concise examples.

As an experienced presenter myself, I know a lot about the other publications out there on presenting. Some are good, some so-so, and some resort to ridiculous suggestions like "just imagine the audience naked"; but this one is outstanding! How refreshing to see that successful training, conference, and seminar stars like Ford, McCullough, and Schutta, have been both willing to share, and able to structure and articulate what really matters, when preparing presentations.As they show, not all presentations are the same -- as audiences and motivations for trying to convey information to others vary. But never have I seen such new and fresh ideas arranged in such a useful way to help others less skilled than these seasoned professionals achieve their own goals in team settings, management meetings, customer information exchanges, sales pitches, and public training or convention venues.In reality, there are many of us who know important content that is worth sharing, but unless we can transfer that in a way that opens the audience to understand it, retain it, use it, and even enjoy the process, it remains locked within us as the original owners. Following these techniques clearly outlined in Presentation Patterns, we can learn to improve our own presentation processes and achieve the goals for which we undertook sharing the information. A "must read" if you intend to speak to groups!

Before you purchase this book, ask yourself how you would define the word "PATTERNS"A pattern, to me, is a set of recurring events/objects/elements. The elements of a pattern repeat in a predictable manner. So I was assuming that this book is an anatomy of GREAT PRESENTATIONS, boiled down to something really simple for others to follow and replicate. I was expecting something like this:PATTERN #26 - SALES PRESENTATIONElements:1 - Relive the PAIN - help your prospects see, feel, hear, the PAIN they might have (1) previously ignored , (2) accustomed to or (3)paid a price to tolerate.2 - Confirm your understanding of their DECISION CRITERIA - knowing what is of value to your prospect3 - LINK your product / service to their VALUES4 - Support your claim with data, proof and EVIDENCEAnyway, I've got a book full of actionable guidelines and techniques for crafting better presentations. So the word "PATTERNS" and "ANTI-PATTERNS" here mean "DO'S and DON'TS".The GOOD- Comprehensive, well-researched- Source provided to extend your knowledge- Some concepts are well-illustrated using screen shots, diagrams and photos- You don't have to read it in sequence, jump to any page and learn something useful- Great examples for technical professionalsThe BAD- Confusing book title (Great Marketing though)- All patterns are given a name and the names are just too gimmicky. "Cookie Cutter", "Bullet-Riddled Corpse", "Dual-headed Monster", "Live on Tape", etc.- Some of the materials are "over-stretched", perhaps the authors have set straight guidelines for their writings, so as to ensure consistency among chapters. This is especially important when there are a few co-authors. (is it a pattern or anti-pattern?)

I read this after several different people recommended it. I thought I didn't need to read it because I'd read Duarte and several others. I was wrong. This book provides a practical vocabulary for thinking about presentations that simplifies construction, philosophy, and presentation, and includes many useful technical tips and examples with instructions for Keynote and PowerPoint

As a technologist, speaker, and author I find myself presenting in a variety of forums from C-Level Executive Overviews to Technical Conference Sessions to Software Design Reviews. Incorporating presentation feedback from fellow speakers, such as Mark Richards, and attendees from the No Fluff Just Stuff (NFJS) Tour has dramatically improved my presentations and has made me a better public speaker. This invaluable advice has now been packaged concisely into Presentation Patterns.The contribution of these patterns (and anti-patterns) to the software engineering community cannot be understated. For anyone wishing to make the jump from Software Engineer to Software Architect this is a must read. I put this work in the same category as other must have non-technical references such as The Elements of Style (Strunk & White) and Diffusion of Innovations (Rogers).

Presentation patterns is a great book filled with practical information you can use in your next presentation. The tips and patterns are presented clearly and the book is very readable even cover to cover
