Tanya Anne Crosby is an artist who has the ability to weave a beautiful tale. Once Upon a Highland Legend will capture your imagination from page one to "the end". "Have you ever wondered what it would be like to go back in time? Ms. Crosby gives you a chance while reading her magical story. This story is a beautiful romance exciting, humorous, and full of Ancient Magic! I could not put it down! Thank you Tanya Anne Crosby for your Amazing Talent in taking this reader on a journey through time to lands far away through time!

Annie is a 21st century archeologist who, along with her deceased father, has been searching in Scotland for a special guardian stone.Callum is a 9th century clan leader who is trying to find a permanent place for his people to live.Somehow, Annie is transported to 9th century Scotland and into the arms of Callum. Will she find the stone she’s been seeking and get back to her own time or will her love for Callum keep her in his time?Love, action, betrayal, and a sassy heroine make for a wonderful story.

I read book 2 first and liked it so much I got this book. What I like about this author and her books is she makes the women strong-willed and skilled. Her stories seem to have a twist that keeps it interesting. In this book, the woman goes back in time. The story is well written and is laced with a few surprises that keeps the reader interested. It's not a regular man meets woman, man saves woman, and they live ever happily ever after.I just admit the part about shopkeeper, at the end of the story, was pretty darn good.

The story line is an easy one to fall in love with! Is it not any history buff's fantasy to time travel and fall in love? Super entertaining, very hard to put down.. It's a quick read and sets you up very nicely for the rest of the books.. Of course, I read this one last which was pretty cool because I already had an understanding of what was going on. I think I'll read the entire series again. It's that good.

enjoyed the entire series

Couldn,'t put it down. Was too short a story. Wanted it to go further. I can't wait to read the rest of the books.

This whole series is excellent! The charactersmake you feel you are in their story andeach hero is amazing. It is not Outlander, butone to enjoy

I really enjoyed this story, I wished it was longer. It is one of the better time travel books I have read in a long time.

I almost have no words. This book is beautiful, fun, timely, and teaches a lesson about not giving up. It hits home, since I, too, had an Olympic dream when I was young. I remember falling flat on the ice all too many times, not to mention worrying about not being good enough."Snowman Paul and Kate's Olympic Dream" is also just the kind of book I loved to read aloud to my students as a classroom teacher. Katie is the perfect role model for any young child who needs encouragement to give it just one more try. Dan and Paul model the kind of support we all would like from our friends. Lapid ties it all together with delightful rhymes and a fast-moving story. Pasek's illustrations are whimsical and appealing. In short, I can't recommend Snowman Paul and Kate's Olympic Dream highly enough. Buy it, read it, and enjoy it with your favorite young 'uns. You'll be glad you did.

I love the illustrations in the book. They are so eye-catching and beautiful. The story was sweet. My kids picked up on Dan's disappointment at the beginning and his helpfulness in the story. I enjoyed the rhythm of the story, Kate's determination and the kindness of Dan and Snowman Paul. I recommend this story to those the read to young kids.

The Snowman Paul books are beautifully illustrated, and this one is particularity timely with the Winter Olympics happening now. The story has a positive message about pursuing your dream.

Fun story.

This is a book all about friendship. Snowman Paul, Dan and Kate work together for Kate's dream. Yossi Lapid makes the story easy for the child to understand and the rhyming is an.added bonus. The illustrations are breathtaking. Snowman Paul loves the Olympics and helps his friend Kate. Kate asks Snowman Paul if he would help her win the Olympics in skating. Dan asked him the same. Snowman Paul said Kate first and then Dan. Dan helped with her training. They worked on her jumps and her speed. She got upset and did not want to go on. "No, Kate, you've got just what it takes..." Does she listen? Does she go to the Olympics ? You get the fun of reading to find out. Yipee!! I was gifted this book for an honest review.

I received a copy from the author for an honest review. It's the perfect gift for the Olympic Games' lover. The collection related to the theme adds this precious item to the well-known work ofâ€Å½Joanna Pasek's art and Yosef Lapid's exemplary rhyming. Like the Halloween and Christmas volumes before, this one shows us again the amazing artistry, dedication to each spread and transports us immediately with movement and grace to the magic of ice skating. I actually wished I could frame some of her spreads. Now the other magic. This is the proof that less is more, and that less is by no means simple. Snowman Paul teaches more than Kate to skate. There's a valuable lesson on how to accept a challenge and take a chore to the end and be rewarded for your hard work with help and support of those who understand and love us.

I love all of the books in the Snowman Paul series, and this one is no exception. In this story, Snowman Paul and his friend, Dan team up to help Kate improve her skating skills. In order to succeed, Kate must work patiently on her jumps and speed. Dan and Paul are wonderful coaches, working hard to prepare Kate for her first skating competition. As always, the illustrations are extraordinary, and the story shares valuable messages young children will appreciate. I highly recommend you add this enchanting tale to your home library.Reviewed by children's author, Deanie Humphrys-Dunne

I thought it was a great book for youngvkids to learn what itvtook Katie to make it to the Oympics.So. i wish to recommend it for other young kids who wwnt to succeeed in anything. i received this book for free as a gift and in return here is my honest review. Amazon was ibsistibg 9n my doing this. Super job Yossi! By Sunny.

New Arrivals in Mulberry Lane is Book 4 in the Mulberry series. It is written by Rosie Clarke. The book takes place in London during 1943 on Mulberry Lane. The people here have adapted to a new world created by World War II. Most of the young men are gone and only the elderly and very young are left. The women have stepped up to replace the men in their jobs while keeping up with their homes and families. We watch as the women adapt to their new lives.Rosie Merchant has come to Mulberry Lane looking for work and to leave the rumors of her behind. Her Father is thought to have killed his son and then his wife before committing suicide and Rosie has left home to leave the rumors behind. Luckily, she looks for work at the Pub with Peggy. Peggy is running her husband’s pub while he is working for the government in Scotland. Her marriage was not broken but severely bent. Her husband had an affair and then Peggy fell in love with an American airman and had twins. Her husband accepted him as his but refuses to have anything to do with them nor will he come home. Their son is flying for the RAF and is not speaking to either of them. Their daughter lost her husband to the war and has left home with her daughter to try to recover. Peggy needs help with the pub and her twins and Rosie fits the bill.As things change for the other members of Peggy’s circle, the dynamics of Mulberry Lance also changes. People come and go from their lives as they try to survive. Their stories weave a view of what it must have been like during this period of history. The book is very good and is quick to read.

Your depiction of the Lane and the characters are very believable and captivating. Living with the war and all the events bring them together closer and dearer to each other. Your storytelling keeps me turning pages quickly to find out what happens next. The Lane brings joy; heartbreaking events; love and understanding to everyone. Really enjoy this series immensely!

I really liked the first two books; they kept my interest.but this book was boring repetitious and still left one dangling at the end. I felt foolish that I was suckered into purchasing a book that I thought would bring my favorite characters to a new time with new lives.

The author is fantastic at describing families - one really feels that one knows the different caracters. The only thing is, that when the book was finished, I wanted to know and follow much more. So sincerely hope the next part is on its way. Thank you.

This series was one of the best I have ever read I actually put myself in mulberry lane with Peggy, Maureen, Tom and Janet I just couldn’t put these books down

As always the Mulberry lans series us a very good read once you start you have a job to put the book down so it never last very long .

I loved knowing the people and dB whathappens. There ebb must be a next book because the Web ending leaves me every hanging

As the war rages on all across Europe the ladies of Mulberry Lane con tinue to to work and carry on.

My daughter loves this book. LOVES it! We only speak Spanish at home so having good books available that she can enjoy identical to those of her English speaking friends is a joy. This book is very colorful and stimulating for her to look at. With this book specifically, we enjoy the thick and durable pages. I can tell this book will hold up to her repetitive reading of it and hopefully, our next born child may also enjoy it too. I have little doubt that won't be in just as great condition by then! We plan to purchase more Bill Martin/Eric Carle books in the near future. It's a plus that we can order them in a different language. Next on our list is the Polar Bear book!

I have it in both English and in Spanish, and we alternate which we read. It's almost exactly the same (good translation but still rhymes), and teaches colors and animal names. The bright pictures on white pages make it eye catching for infants.

Baby's second favorite, mommy love it! She likes the shapes and the sound I make every time I say an animal name hahah. The only time she sit still when I'm reading her her favorite books, and this is one of them. Show animals and colors.

I love the book but only give it three stars because it said "Hard Cover" and it's really actually a small board book. I wish I hadLooked at the size before ordering. That should be clarified. Board book not "Hard Cover" book.

This book is the traditional 'Brown Bear, Brown Bear" except for in Spanish. Hard cover. Its perfect for Bilingual moms like myself, or anyone who wants to introduce the Spanish language in an easy format and fun platform. My children love it! I've purchased it for myself and as a gift.

A mi hija le gusta mucho!

Wonderful book for little ones.

I work in a Headstart in Parlier Ca. The children love these books because they are colorful and sturdy! Also it is in their first language . I love seeing them love books!

unPHILtered 1 BIBLICAL CORRECTNESS Fix No. 1: Replace Political Correctness with Biblical Correctness It will probably come as no surprise that there are a few people out there who wouldn’t exactly describe me as “politically correct.” My Webster’s Dictionary, which was first developed by one of our founding fathers in the early nineteenth century—Noah Webster—defines being politically correct as “agreeing with the idea that people should be careful to not use language or behave in a way that could offend a particular group of people.” Hey, if what comes out of my mouth sometimes offends the people who don’t believe what is written in the Bible, I’m guilty as charged. But understand this: I’m not trying to hurt anyone’s feelings, and I don’t dislike people simply because their opinions are different from mine. I don’t hate anyone. In truth, I love everybody on this green earth. I don’t believe in stereotypes, and I do believe in respecting everyone, regardless of whether they agree with my beliefs or not. All people, whether they’re white, black, yellow, red, or green, are of great worth in God’s eyes, and His desire for us all is that we share in His kingdom. Jesus actually commanded us to love. John 13:34–35 says, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” I simply believe that what is written in the Scripture is the ultimate truth and that it’s the blueprint for my life. I’m certainly not the first person to believe it. In the very first edition of The American Dictionary of the English Language, published in 1828, Webster wrote the following in the preface: “The moral principles and precepts contained in the Scriptures ought to form the basis of all our civil constitutions and laws. All the miseries and evils which men suffer from, vice, crime, ambition, injustice, oppression, slavery, and war, proceed from their despising or neglecting the precepts contained in the Bible.” It doesn’t get much clearer than that, folks. Webster, who has been called the “father of American scholarship and education” and whose blue-backed speller books educated five generations of our country’s children, spelled it out for us nearly two hundred years ago. Webster believed evil occurred because men and women neglected the Bible and didn’t follow God’s Word. We’re still using Webster’s dictionary today, so I guess he knew what he was doing. I imagine Mr. Webster is rolling in his grave now that words like sexting, twerking, and selfie are officially part of the English language. Hey, only in America, Jack! Somewhere along the way, political correctness trumped biblical correctness in America, and in my opinion it’s the cause of many of our country’s problems today. Political correctness tries to dictate what is right and wrong, instead of our country having a moral system of righteous laws. Our society is overly sensitive, and we seem to be fixated on building up people’s self-esteem and confidence. Hey, everybody needs constructive criticism once in a while. The way things are going, it’s okay to have an opinion in America, as long as you don’t offend anyone and don’t quote the Bible. Many people today are eager to share the “positive” bits and pieces of the Bible in order to be politically correct but ignore the parts of the Scripture that might offend others. In 2 Timothy 4:2–4, Paul the Apostle warned us of the consequences of being ashamed to preach the gospel, saying, “Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction. For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.” I hate to tell you this, folks, but the times that Paul warned us about are here. Everywhere you look across our once-great land, politicians, special-interest groups, and people under the control of the Evil One are erasing any visible signs of Christianity. They’re muzzling the people who speak the truth. If you speak out about sins like adultery, drunkenness, or sexual impurity, you’re labeled as ignorant, insensitive, bigoted, or even hateful. The “PC police” constantly preach tolerance and acceptance, but they’re intolerant of beliefs that aren’t in line with their own. Certain Americans condemn businesses like Chick-fil-A for speaking out against same-sex marriages, but then we’re told to celebrate companies like Ben & Jerry’s ice cream and Starbucks because they embrace them. Is it not a two-way street? Isn’t there supposed to be freedom of speech on both sides of the issue? The amazing thing to me is that biblical correctness has never changed. It’s written on the pages of the Bible and the words have remained the same through the ages. The sins are listed and are there for everyone to see. Each of us has the ability to read them, study them, and then decide whether we’re going to sin or follow God’s commands. Conversely, political correctness is constantly changing and evolving. What might have been “PC” yesterday isn’t “PC” today, even if it’s only the smallest of things. Now, I’m all for being kind and thoughtful in the way we refer to people, but good grief! We get a bit ridiculous at times. Manholes have been renamed utility holes so as not to offend women, and blackboards are now called chalkboards so as not to offend African Americans. People who can’t hear are no longer deaf; they’re hearing impaired. People who can’t see are no longer blind; they’re visually impaired. People aren’t even short anymore; they’re vertically challenged. So do we call a bald man follically impaired? Political correctness is constantly morphing into a dark maze of nonsense. It keeps getting more and more nonsensical. Yet, there has been a constant erosion of biblical correctness in our country. Look at the evidence in recent years: • A large cross that was prominently displayed outside a chapel at an isolated military base in northern Afghanistan was removed in 2011 because it didn’t adhere to U.S. Army regulations. The army chaplain manual now prohibits permanent displays of religious symbols. I didn’t serve in the military, but it would seem to me that the cross might be a source of comfort and relief to the troops who are risking their lives in battles in foreign lands. But, hey, that’s just me. • In La Jolla, California, the American Civil Liberties Union and other groups are demanding that a twenty-nine-foot-tall cross that stands on government-owned land on Mount Soledad be dismantled. Crosses have been erected on the land since 1913, and the present cross is the centerpiece of a Korean War Memorial. The ACLU contends the cross violates the separation of church and state because it demonstrates preference to a specific religion. In December 2013, a federal judge ordered the cross to be removed, but the case is being appealed. • At Camp Pendleton in California, U.S. Marines are fighting to keep two thirteen-foot crosses erected on a remote hill on the base. The memorial was first erected in 2003 by seven marines who were grieving for fallen soldiers lost in the war on terror. After the original cross was destroyed by a wildfire, a group of marines and widows carried two new ones up the hill. At the base of the crosses are several rocks, which were carried and left by the friends, widows, and children of fallen soldiers. A group called the Military Association of Atheists and Freethinkers is demanding that the crosses be removed. So far the marines haven’t buckled, although a moratorium on the placement of religious symbols on bases has been put in place. • In 2012, the U.S. Forest Service denied an atheist group’s request to have a Jesus statue removed from government-owned land on a Montana mountain. The statue was installed in 1955 by the local chapter of the Knights of Columbus as a memorial to local veterans of World War II. Fortunately, the Forest Service extended the special-use permit for another ten years because the local community revered the statue and wanted it to stay. The atheists and the other special-interest groups who are opposed to having crosses, statues of Jesus, and other religious symbols on public grounds say it’s a matter of separation of church and state. But if you go back and read what our founding fathers said and wrote while they were building the greatest republic in the world, you would never conclude that they wanted to separate God from the fabric of political life in America. In fact, it’s the last thing you would probably conclude. But now the thought police are trying to rewrite U.S. history. The men who signed the Declaration of Independence, like Benjamin Franklin, Samuel Adams, Benjamin Rush, and John Adams, were godly men. They were men who governed according to the principles of God and their conscience. But now we have men in power who have renounced the Bible, which is the only accurate map of the human heart that has ever been published. There’s evidence throughout American history that our government and its officials have often acknowledged God as the cornerstone of our laws and liberties. Don’t believe me? Pull a few coins out of your pocket and read the inscriptions. “In God We Trust” was first inscribed on U.S. coins in 1864 by an act of Congress, and in 1956 Congress made those sacred words our country’s national motto. When George Washington became the first U.S. president in 1789 he added the words “so help me God” to his inauguration oath and many presidents since have spoken them. Since the early 1820s, the U.S. Supreme Court has opened its sessions with the prayer of “God save the United States and this Honorable Court,” and Congress has started its sessions with prayer since 1789. It wasn’t only our founding fathers who were godly men. Many American presidents relied on their faith to guide them while serving in the most powerful position in the world. When children recite the Pledge of Allegiance before starting a school day—at least those who are still allowed to recite it—don’t they say, “one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all”? Do you know why? On June 14, 1954, President Dwight Eisenhower signed a bill into law that added “under God” to the Pledge of Allegiance. Eisenhower stated: “From this day forward, the millions of our school children will daily proclaim in every city and town, every village and rural school house, the dedication of our nation and our people to the Almighty. . . . In this way we are reaffirming the transcendence of religious faith in America’s heritage and future; in this way we shall constantly strengthen those spiritual weapons which forever will be our country’s most powerful resource, in peace or in war.” President Eisenhower said our spiritual weapons would be America’s most powerful resources, whether at peace or in war, and he was absolutely right. We need those resources more than ever in today’s world. During a speech before the Attorney General’s Conference on Law Enforcement Problems on February 15, 1950, President Harry S. Truman said: “The fundamental basis of this nation’s law was given to Moses on the Mount. The fundamental basis of our Bill of Rights comes from the teachings which we get from Exodus and St. Matthew, from Isaiah and St. Paul. I don’t think we emphasize that enough these days.” What would President Truman think about our country today? Religion, the Bible, and the church are woven within the fabric of American heritage. There are religious symbols throughout Washington, DC. At the Supreme Court building, there’s a marble frieze on the south wall of the courtroom that features Moses holding the Ten Commandments, along with images of Confucius, Muhammad, kings and various Greek philosophers. There is a statue of Moses in the rotunda of the Library of Congress, and the Ten Commandments are symbolized in the floor of the National Archives building. Even the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia, which is a symbol of American independence, was cast with part of the Scripture from Leviticus 25:10: “Proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof.” Of course, many of those government buildings were constructed when faith and religion were still the foundation of our country. Are we going to one day remove these religious symbols from our history, too? Nowadays, they’re trying to remove the Ten Commandments from courtrooms across the country. In 2001, Roy Moore, then chief justice of the Alabama Supreme Court, installed a 5,280-pound granite monument of the Ten Commandments in the rotunda of the state’s judicial building. Of course, it didn’t take long for three attorneys to sue him, alleging that the monument was an unconstitutional state endorsement of religion. A U.S. district judge ordered Moore to remove the monument after he lost his appeal, and when Moore refused, he was removed from the bench by a state ethics panel. In 2005, a sharply divided U.S. Supreme Court ordered that framed copies of the Ten Commandments on the walls of two rural Kentucky courthouses be taken down because they were violations of the separation of church and state. At the time, Justice Antonin Scalia, one of the dissenting voices, said the decision was inconsistent with our founding fathers’ own views. In fact, Scalia recalled the dark day of September 11, 2001, when terrorists attacked New York and Washington, DC. When President George W. Bush spoke to the American people shortly after the attacks, he concluded his remarks with “God bless America.” Scalia, who was in Rome that day, said a European judge confided that he wished more European leaders still included religious references in their speeches. For the life of me, I can’t figure out why anyone would want to remove the Ten Commandments from a courtroom. Let me get this right: you’re an atheist and you’re saying it’s a violation of your rights to have to look upon the Ten Commandments when you walk into a courthouse. But much of the foundation of civil and criminal laws around the world was founded on the principles of the Ten Commandments. Okay, let’s start with number five in the laws God gave to Moses on Mount Sinai. It says, “Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you.” Well, let me ask you something: Where does law enforcement take your children when they find them drunk and tearing up other people’s property? They take them to stand before a judge. If they honored their mothers and fathers, they wouldn’t be disobedient and violate the laws of the land. Where do they take children when they really step out of line and are rebellious? They’re going to take them to a juvenile court to determine their punishment. It would seem to me that if the judge is going to try to teach a child a lesson for breaking the fifth commandment, the Ten Commandments might need to be hanging there for the child to see them. If a man kills his neighbor, he has violated the sixth commandment, which says, “You shall not murder.” If a judge is going to sentence him to life in prison, don’t you think the Ten Commandments should be there so he can see what law he broke? If a man commits adultery and gets caught in the act by his wife, he has broken the seventh commandment, which says, “You shall not commit adultery.” His spouse is probably going to take him to divorce court and take half of his money and possessions. And if a man gets caught robbing a bank, he has violated the eighth commandment, which says, “You shall not steal.” The judge is probably going to sentence him to prison for knocking off the bank. Wouldn’t that be a good time to read him the Ten Commandments? What happened to our country, folks? Nowadays, our children no longer pray before the school day begins and greeters at certain department stores are no longer allowed to welcome customers with “Merry Christmas” during the holidays. In some schools, our children aren’t even allowed to sing Christmas carols because the lyrics include “Christ.” Don’t even think about putting a nativity scene near a courthouse or public building! They might throw you in jail. When did Jesus Christ, the most perfect human to ever walk on the face of the earth, become a bad guy? Political correctness trumps everything else in America nowadays, and I’m convinced it’s another example of the Evil One’s ploys to deceive us. Today’s truth is based on what is socially acceptable, and biblical correctness has somehow become hate speech. Satan is a master deceiver, and he works to provide nonbelievers with a platform of acceptance. As it says in 2 Peter 2:2: “Many will follow their depraved conduct and will bring the way of truth into disrepute.” When you move Jesus out of the equation, all that’s left is political wrangling. There’s no Gospel, and there’s no Good News. So everyone tries to fix America’s problems with politics alone—the spiritual realm has been pushed aside. America desperately needs a political correction that only God can give. Politicians can’t fix the things that matter most, beginning with sin, physical death, righteousness, and holiness—we’ll talk about these in the last section of the book. Attributes such as morality and integrity can’t be legislated. Politics can’t bring people peace, love, joy, honesty, and gentleness. Only following Jesus can do that. Even though we’re being scorned and mocked by the “PC police,” we have to stand up for what we believe, regardless of the consequences. It’s not about being politically correct; it’s about being biblically correct. And with the direction America is headed, I’d much rather put my faith in the Bible than in politics. I’d rather our politicians be men and women who believe that the Bible is the Word of God. You want political correctness? Elect spiritual politicians who are biblically correct, and you will have it!

This read really defines a lot that is wrong with America and this world. The world has done so much to remove God and Christianity from everything and all they did was hurt themselves and a great nation. Phil and I see to eye to eye on so many topics outlined in his book. Brings attention to some of today's "sensitive" subjects.

Having my entire ancestry from north Louisiana, I naturally follow the Robertsons . The latest book from Phil Robertson doesn't disappoint. Sure, most of the suggestions are good old fashioned common sense points.. But Phil shows us that he is an incredibly articulate and educated man who has a lot of good ideas. Shipping was fast and the price was great here on Amazon and from a local seller. I recommend anything written by the Robertsons .

I'm thankful for this book because not only was it interesting to me (as a Christian) to listen to but my non-christian husband enjoyed listening as well. After this book we listened to the audio version of Jase's book Good Call. I wish I would've listened to that one first so I could know a little more background on Phil before listening to his book. Both books are well done and interesting to the average hunter with faith and scripture weaved all through. Well done Phil ... well done.

A Christian who is unafraid to stand tall for the Faith, Mr. Robertson is a true American hero for our times. In this work, Mr. Robertson shows to the reader why Americans are attracted to "Duck Dynasty" and the wholesome Christian virtues that define the extended Robertson family. Highly recommended for anyone wishing to see how this family's embrace of the Christian Faith has resulted in so much good, not only for the Robertson's, but for the many people that the Robertson's have touched and influenced over the years.

Love everything about Phil except that nasty looking beard. I love his philosophy of life, the simple way he lives, the importance of GOD in his life. His adult kids are all great - that's a testament to GREAT parenting by both Father & Mother. Loved their show & comic fun attitudes about most everything. Inspiring to live a more simple life, GOD fearing life & appreciate the beauty of our Earth that GOD has provided.

I'm not one to go crazy for a reality TV show or its people. Yet I find Duck Dynasty enjoyable. Phil is by far my favorite person. I like his wisdom. I like what he has to say. And I must say I loved this book. I loved it so much I bought my mother a copy as mine was on my Kindle. She loved the book as well.Phil is a Christian man who believes in the wisdom and guidance of the Bible. He also believes in common sense, and he has a dry sense of humor. He is "down home", someone you'd be happy to sit down and have a meal with him. I've never wanted to meet a movie or television personality before, however I would not pass up the chance to chat with Phil Robertson in person.

very thoughtful...a real surprise...favorite quote from Phil "we may lose America, but the kingdom of God will last forever."Wisdom written in language a 6th grader could understand. Thank you Phil for your 5 word answer to the world's problems "Love God, love your neighbor." That is all it will take to turn this disaster around. You are a gift to mankind, Phil. We are traveling yourway in a few months. Sure hope we can meet you and the family. Chuck & Donna

As another older first generation Christian who came from an evil past, I deeply admire Phil and his willingness to fight for his family and stand out for Jesus, even if I don’t agree with him. The book is well written, with many deep lessons told through stories.I highly recommend.

Everyone in America should read this book! Especially if you are a Christian. Phil has put it into words that I've been thinking and saying for years. This nation needs to forget "political correctness " and get back to "biblical correctness "! Highly recommended.

Review

“Refreshingly, Teng divorces the relationship of the island and the mainland from the now stale arguments over reunification, or whether or not Taiwan is part of China, and grounds it in the tantalizing history of Chinese imperialism. She draws on Qing dynasty (1644–1911) travel writing and paintings to argue that China effectively colonized the island… Teng makes adroit use of a growing body of literature stigmatizing China as a colonial conqueror―rather than a victim of European colonialism―and incorporates the importance of Taiwan into the debate on Chinese expansionism.”―Macabe Keliher, Far Eastern Economic Review“Teng paints an intriguing picture of the debates that emerged concerning the colonization of Taiwan and official Qing policy towards the island’s indigenous peoples… Teng is making a significant contribution to the study of imperialism overall, and is suggesting that it is time to move beyond the confines by which colonialism is seen as the exclusive practice of Western men.”―Jeremy E. Taylor, Journal of Colonialism and Colonial History“Thoroughly examining Qing dynastic travel accounts and maps of Taiwan, Teng has written a splendid analysis of changing Chinese perceptions of Taiwan and its indigenous peoples from the late 17th century on, culminating in Taiwan’s becoming a province of China in 1887… This book should be read by anyone interested in early Taiwanese history or in better understanding the current views about Taiwan held by Chinese in both the Republic of China and the People’s Republic of China. Those interested in discourses about the nature of imperialism or in how depictions of indigenous native peoples are manipulated to suit colonizers’ needs will also find this book worthwhile.”―V. J. Symons, Choice

Funny book w/lots of useful information...

I purchased this book because I am planning a trip to Venezuela (including a week on Margarita Island) next February/March to visit some Venezuelan friends of mine. I am also a big fan of the travel writing genre, and have done a fair amount of travelling myself. I was looking forward to reading another American's impressions of Margarita Island and gaining some insight on the place. Imagine my disappointment when confronted with this rambling, self-indulgent drivel. Now, travel writing as a genre tends to be very personal and self-reflective; but all good travel writing contains at least some cultural or historical context about the location. Not so this work. The author spends more time describing her air-conditioned room at the Palomar Hilton than she does describing the Venezuelan culture or experience. The book is a composite of several trips to Margarita, yet not once does Ms. McMahon describe any meaningful interactions with Venezuelan natives. All her conversations with Venezuelans are limited to her dealings with hotel staff, taxi drivers, or waiters in the context of their jobs in the service industry. On the first page we are told that there was an attempted government coup the month before her visit, yet nowhere in the book does she expand on this event or even express any interest in it. Instead we get detailed descriptions of her shopping trips and lunches at French restaurants. Her lack of interest in the actual country of Venezuela (outside of the Hilton, the shopping, and the beaches) is absolutely mind-boggling. Could it be that, a mere month after an attempted coup, she did not have a single conversation with a taxi driver, bartender, or person on the street about the political situation in the country? Apparently so. What about the rich Venezuelan history, the music, the cuisine- Ms. McMahon apparently did not attempt to explore any of these. Instead she gives her attention to the fact that the tour group she booked with did not give her her promised hotel room with a view. This book unfortunately embodies the definition of "stupid American" that so many of my fellow countrymen are unfairly labelled with when travelling abroad. To top it off, the book suffers from an appalling lack of editing. There is missing punctuation; words are partically italicized at random; and throughout the book, the well-known beverage "Cuba Libre" is incorrectly called "Cuba Libra". It's amazing that the book was published in this state, given the volume of errors. All in all, I was hugely disappointed by this book. If you are looking for a true travel book about Margarita Island or Venezuela, this is definitely not for you. If, on the other hand, you want to read detailed descriptions of the author's quest to find an unoccupied chaise lounge in the sun next to the hotel swimming pool, by all means read this book.

Barbara Mandelowitz McMahon writes her travel memoirs with a charming touch. The laughs come regularly, and the book is a pleasure, whether or not you're planning on a South American Island adventure. Our intrepid couple keeps coming close to disaster, but never have a bad experience. Their humorous close calls with island bureaucracy, unreliable airlines, annoying French tourists, challenging rental cars and traffic, just seem to bring them closer together. While there are clouds following them around, it never gets worse than slightly overcast, with bright sun by the end of each chapter. And what are we to make of the mysterious "Rick" figure. He is hardly says anything, and yet is at the center of Ms. McMahon's attention. How are we to understand this Zen-like figure and his inexplicable role in this delightful travelogue? Maybe because he is simply the best at "getting the ice."

This book is a hilarious send-up of the trials & tribulations of vacation travel. I laughed as I identified with so many of the pitfalls that befall all travelers. The Wall Street Journal recently devoted an entire article to the challenges of securing a prime location lounge chair around the pool at popular resorts. This book beat them to the punch in a much funnier way! I would recommend this book to anyone with a sense of humor who appreciates being able to laugh at themselves as they fondly look back at travel to an exotic island.

This book had me in stitches! It is a beautifully-written, hilarious account of the author's travel adventures with her husband in Margarita Island. It is poignant and gripping. I don't remember when I laughed so hard reading a book.

The book is delightful, funny and self-effacing, as this couple shares their heartfelt love of the people and beauty of the island. The book gives us a "realistic" view of what to expect politically and culturally when travelling to this beautiful, yet unstable paradise. A must-read for anyone planning on going to Margarita Island.

Neurotic, hip & funny. Laughed out loud - many times. Refreshing change from the usual dull travel fare.
