The content in the book is good, and it's clear the author has done his research. However, the whole book reads like a (very) rough draft. The same thoughts and ideas are repeated, unrelated ideas appear in the same sections, formatting is inconsistent, and the number of spelling, grammar, and usage errors is distracting. This is a great draft of a book, but it is in desperate need of an expert editor and a good copyeditor.

Not done yet, but so far I live it. I keep hearing, “Gamify your curriculum.” However, nobody shows me how. This book breaks it down for me. Worthy purchase for teachers and professors.

Not a terrible book but it seemed more about inspiring me to try gamification rather than giving guidance on techniques or evaluation methods. I might not be the intended audience but I think most people trying this title would want more direction rather than statements about how successful it can be.

Reading the book “The Gamification of Learning and Instruction” was very enjoyable. What is the most interesting about the book is the way Karl Kapp uses examples of games from different generations to make his point. He mention games from Atari 2600 to recent game such as Red Dead Redemption on the Playstation 3. As a gamer since 1980, I felt like I was getting a reward every time a game that I’m familiar with in the past was mentioned.

I liked some of the content in this book but I could not get past all of the misspelled words and grammar issues. It turned me off from wanting to read further.

I needed a book to learn and introduce this concept in my company. The examples are very useful, creative and reliable.Gamification of Learning included the game methodology, the steps, rules, player profile and his motivation. This book explain that you can use the game methodology and tactics to solve real and daily problems.

As a frequent industry speaker on the topic of gamification in learning, I'm frequently asked about the definitive book on the topic. I'm glad I finally have an answer. Just as I find Kapp's previous book on 3D learning to be the definitive book in its' field, his new book is by far the best one in the red hot trend of gamification in learning. Kapp has put together a brilliant primer on how to gamify learning. It's packed with both useful examples and research rational for gamification. Kapp does a great job of challenging the industry to go beyond just adding points, levels and badges to the same boring eLearning and calling it gamification. Instead, he shows how cutting edge learning organizations are using gamification to reinvent learning, making learning engaging and relevant for a new generation of digital native learners. The book covers the rational for gamification, with a wealth of research, explains what it is, AND how to develop it. As a learning developer, I was particularly interested in the chapter about the gamification design process. I liked all the chapters by the contributing writers, who are leaders in their fields, particularly Alicia Sanchez's case study about casual games in the defense industry.I have always admired Karl Kapp's grasp of both academic research and professional implications of new learning trends. This book is both a great inspiration for learning professionals and an awesome introduction to students in the field.

The book is easy and fast to read. It covers the basics. I wanted to get deeper in gamifiying instruction with concrete examples.
