The title of this review says it all, but I'll add a few comments regarding specific things that I liked and disliked in the book.My background: I've interviewed for a variety of positions in chemical engineering, hospitals, professional schools, and most recently the pharmaceutical industry. I've also interviewed and evaluated candidates in hospital settings.I purchased this book hoping to gain additional valuable insights to augment my past interview experiences, but I found the vast majority of advice in the book is either common sense to any experienced job seeker or too general to be especially helpful.POSITIVE ASPECTS-The recommendations for the dreaded "Tell me about yourself" question are spot on and detailed--easily the most valuable ~7 pages of the entire book.-Tips on analyzing one's strengths and past accomplishments should help new job seekers as they prepare for first-time professional interviews.-Easy read--most readers should be able to finish this over the course of an afternoon or less.NEGATIVE ASPECTS-Example responses--if actually repeated verbatim in an interview--would sound extremely artificial, robotic, and would definitely never land you a job. I understand that these only meant to serve as examples, but placing them in quotes may fool some readers into thinking that this is exactly what interviewers want to hear (to be fair, this is addressed in the book, but it's buried in the fine print).-As mentioned previously, this book contains a lot of common sense that most readers should (hopefully) know: bathe, wear a nice suit, maintain eye contact, be confident, research the company/position, match your strengths and skills to the position, answer the question that they ask you, don't ramble, etc.-Sometimes the book reads a bit too sarcastic and unprofessional. Passages such as "You Brought Your Cat. How Nice." and "You reek, bro!" don't really add to the credibility of the author.OVERALLDon't bother purchasing--you can download a free pdf version of an older edition of the same book (4th, 2000) that essentially covers the exact same points.

Does exactly what it says on the tin.Generally an informative work good for preparing your mindset for interviews. Can't say that all proposed answers resonated with me (as one could perhaps expect).Does not apply for all industries and some of the content might be outdated in my (albeit rather limited) experience. Although this can also be cultural differences (I'm not an American like the author).The main value I found in this book was to gain awareness about different types of interview questions, and start to prepare my own thought process and answers.

I had been interviewing for months. I would generally consider myself an excellent interviewee. I made it to final rounds for at least 7 or 8 roles and I kept getting passed up for someone else. I didn't get feedback so I didn't know what I wasn't doing in order to close the deal. This book helped me become a closer and I was prepared for ever single interview question I was asked after reading it. This book will make you do exercises, so get your pen and paper out and starting writing what it tells you. I landed a job against two other tough competitors after reading this book. I'm a closer now.

Reading through the questions and answers in this book is a fantastic way to prepare for hard interviews. Super way to study for interviews! Content helps you build your self-confidence as you formulate your answers (based on your experience) to the questions. Super preparation!

This book is timeless. The information and interview questions prepares you to think smart in your responses and how to form your responses. It made a difference on how I approached my interviews. I was so much more comfortable when it became question time. If you didn't practice the particular question being asked-no problem the book gives you tools so you can formulate a great response. I have used some of the thought process when answering tough questions at my new job. It puts your mind in a whole new way of how to formulate an answer.

I strongly recommend you purchase "101 Smart Questions to ask on Your Interview" when you purchase this book. The combination of the two will give you much confidence when you set out to be interviewed. The author has done a superlative job of coaching the reader so that s/he doesn't appear either arrogant or wimpy. You might actually FEEL the part of the perfect candidate when you are out there. These books are nuggets of gold. They offer insights into various interviewing types and how to handle each one. They help you prepare good, solid answers to very difficult questions. There are numerous examples to guide you as you prepare your own story.

Do not go to an interview without reading this book from cover to cover. It was a great eye opener for me and I aced the first interview after many years of trying without success. In short, this book offers the best possible answers on management and leadership issues that very often are the determining factors on whether or not you're the right fit to join a team.

Great book to help with basic interview questions. Not all questions in this book will apply to you, but it gives a very good overview of the typical interview questions and some insightful answers that I've never thought about. It helped me for my interview- so 5 Stars and I recommend.

Perdonally it has not helped me but its an interesting read.

I believe I need to read it again. This should be required reading for high school students.

A bit out of date. For example, we don't have as many spelling problems nowadays (thanks to the autocorrection in Word, etc). The pronunciation chapter is mainly on the American accent and seemed redundant to me.

I gave this to our grandson for Christmas. I am sure he's gotten a lot out of it. There's always room for improvement and what better way than to read this book and put it to the test when the student is writing essays, etc. It is a book that one can always use. It will never go out of style.

Bought this for a person whose first language is not English. It has been very helpful for his pronunciation. Studying the roots of words has aided him in understanding meanings as he reads. The only complaint is that sometimes the author's language is stilted.

This is a highly useful book for those who are in, or are going into, leadership. The kindle edition however is very badly done. Words are missing and repeated; spaces are missing, making two words into one; and there are random letters and punctuation thrown in. There is really no excuse for this lack of quality. This is a fun book to read to your children before bed. The animals at the zoo are all getting ready for bed and putting on their pajamas. The book also teaches the abcs with an animals for each letter of the alphabet. For preschool to kindergarten. I know my grandsons will enjoy it.

The illustrations in this book are really really lovely. The text is a little cumbersome, but the illustrations make up for it!

We love all books like this!! Bright colors, fun designs, and learning all in one. You just can't get better than that!! Loved reading this with my kids before bed and now its on their kindle to let them read whenever they feel like!!

Very colorful and imaginative book. Didn't love the flow of words, but this would be helpful in learning the alphabet.

This book is great for my preschooler. She loves books with the alphabet and all the bright colors and animals really made her enjoy the book. I think this will become a top read for us at bedtime.

I bought this book for my 3 year old nephew and my niece found another story in the book called Janie and Grandpa. The story is about a little girl and her grandpa dying of cancer. I find this very disturbing. I do not understand why the second story was included in the book. I would like to know if anyone else has experienced this.

Such a cute book. I really enjoyed reading this to my LOI wish I had the hard copy though.

Glyn Johns worked with some of the greatest musicians of all time--The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, The Who, The Eagles, Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, and on and on. So, it is very disappointing that his book didn't contain many interesting and illuminating stories about them. The book reads like an itinerary. I did this, then I did that, then I worked with _____. The man is just not a storyteller. I didn't feel like I knew/understood any of the people better after reading his book. Also, he seems to think an inordinate number of people are jerks and hard to work with--which makes me wonder about him. He didn't come across as very likeable. However, I have read books by people who weren't likeable that were still very good books. This wasn't one of them. It's just okay, at best.

Johns shares many entertaining stories about his life in the recording studio helping engineer and produce some of the most legendary albums of all time. He does a fine job of re-creating many of these moments, and does so without fawning all over the artists he has been fortunate enough to work with.Reading this book has inspired me to seek out several albums he recorded in the 60’s and 70’s, based on his recollection of completing these records.I only wish Johns had gone into more detail about some of the sessions — for example, working with The Rolling Stones on Sticky Fingers. I was not expecting him to share gossip about these sessions but I would have liked more detail about assembling these albums. All in all this is a really enjoyable book and I recommend it.

I was so looking forward to this book and was so extremely disappointed. He really needed an editor and a lot more time to pull this together. It's a hastily written rambling unstructured diary.It's unfortunate that it jumps around so much and never focuses on any one artist or album for very long. I was hoping to get a behind the scenes understanding of how these great albums that he engineered or produced came about but that never happened. I also got the feeling that he takes a lot more credit for things that he had very little to do with.

I read this book at a time when I was very interested in the production of music. It turned out to be the ideal story to delve into as the author's musical experience encompasses working with practically all the classic rock bands in the heyday of the 60's and 70's. What particularly impressed me was the sheer creativity and will to experiment whilst working with artists of such calibre and raw talent. There is much emphasis on his work with the Rolling Stones with whom he collaborated extensively. His personal life included some hair-raising adventures whilst travelling constantly and these certainly add to the piquant feel of his experience. One gets a real feel of the rock and roll world with its thrills, excesses and downers and all is told in a very straightforward manner. A highly informative read on an exciting aspect of music making during a truly legendary era.

Not too sure what some of the low-star reviewers were looking for here, but I found this book a great catalog of documented experiences from a guy who lived his dream and had a great ride that started during the days of music production in transition from the old guard of the 50's to the rock and roll era of the 60's and 70's. Much the same as the amazing story of Geoff Emerick and his tenure with the Beatles, Glyn tells his tale of how he somewhat haphazardly found his way into the business he loved and stayed for the whole show. While there are certainly some bits that feel like there was more to tell, overall the book is a collection of well documented stories and insights that only someone with first-hand experience could relate. Glyn's writing was fine for this reader; I found the book flowed well and was great fun to read. Short pieces though some were, it made this an easy book to drop in and out of while waiting in lines, sitting around, or for a quick read before bed. For someone who grew up to the music of this era, it's a very interesting set of back stories that had me digging into my catalog of vinyl and CD's even deeper than usual to re-listen to some of the music he helped bring to all of us.

He writes like a sound engineer, all business anddetail which makes the book ultimately a failure. You could pick this up in a book store, scan it for 20 minutes and know all you need to about this rather bland memoir. Better still, listen to the music. The man has been involved in some amazing projects, but you’ll be pretty bored by 1/2 way through his tale since it’s just a rehash of recording sessions and dates with “lovely people” which could have been written on a single page in the form of a list- which you can find at the end.

In contrast to some others who've reviewed this book I found it to be a delightful read. I'm a big fan of bios/memoirs of rock musicians and am always interested to gain the perspective of those "behind the scenes" who were instrumental in getting their art out to the public. Glyn Johns doesn't get hung up in describing ad nauseum the technical end of things but focuses more on the personalities and quirks of the people he worked with. I also appreciate that he was humble enough to admit he was sometimes wrong or that he's changed his mind about a particular person over the years. It's so refreshing to hear stories told from an honest point of view instead of one that's always concerned with making oneself seem smarter than everyone else around them. Highly recommended.

This book makes one aware of how biodiversity is important in our food supply, and of how local crop species and local practices help conserve the agricultural environment around the world. Hunger is not best addressed by monoculture and the importation of crop species from the west to the east, or put differently, from the north to the south, from the developed to the undeveloped. This is a plea for sustainable, wise food production, in an increasingly money-driven economic hegemony.

In this remarkable book, Vandana Shiva effectively contrasts corporate command-and-control methods of food production with the small farmer economy that predominates in the third world (especially in her native India). In contast to what many here in the U.S. might perceive as the conventional wisdom, Shiva makes a strong argument that local, small scale agriculture is superior to the agribusiness model for a number of reasons.First, Shiva points out that many of the productivity gains attributable to the Green Revolution were achieved by dramatically increased inputs of fertilizer, seed and water. When one compares units of input with units of output, however, native practices produce higher yields -- especially when one takes into account the multiple uses derived from a single product.For example, mustard oil is a vital product used by many of India's poor for cooking, seasoning, medicine and other uses. But it has been banned by the Indian government (under highly suspicious circumstances) in order to allow imports of soybean oil products. While giant corporations benefit from expanded sales, native industries have been destroyed, contibuting to poverty and malnourishment.Shiva discusses the commercial fishing and aquaculture (shrimp farming) practices that inevitably result in environmental destruction and reduced catches. This opening of consciousness to new possibilities may be attributable to the extraordinary work of people like Vandana Shiva, whose intelligence and compassion is abundantly evident in this book. Everyone should read this book. Gives a interesting inside look into what was known over 10 years ago about the dangers of genetic engineering and how little has been done to protect consumers.

What she does in educating the world through her writings and her direct action in the world is fab. Plus she is a smart scientist and it's always nice when brilliant people are working hard to change the world to make it better. Once you learn it's hard to unlearn.

This is a good book to read if you are already well-informed and interested in the anti- big agribuisiness movement. However, it should be noted that Shiva is first and fore-most an activist. Her writing style is geared towards motivating people to her cause and she makes many inflammatory and sensational statements. This isn't to say that her statements are incorrect. Just that if you are looking for hard scientific facts, this is not the book. This is a way to introduce yourself to the many controversies that exist surrounding Monsanto, seed patents, GMO, big agriculture, etc.
